kodakeasyshareex1011ki6 Kodak EasyShare EX-1011 Digital Photo Frame ReviewKodak’s 10-inch EX-1011 (retailing at around $250) follows hard on the heels of the EX-811, and shares many features with its smaller predecessor. The key feature to both of these models is the inbuilt wireless connectivity that allows you access directly to your PC, and also to Kodak’s free Easyshare Online Gallery sharing service.

Setting up digital photo frames can be time consuming, but the EX-1011 is relatively straightforward. Once you have installed Kodak’s Easyshare Gallery software onto your Windows PC, enabled the necessary Windows Media player 11 and signed up for a gallery account you can then turn the photo frame on. The frame automatically detects any accessible networks, and if you are connecting to a secure network it will ask you for a security code. This you can input using the remote control provided with the frame. Once you have done that the frame will detect your PC, and you can start streaming photos.
The EX-1011 is compatible with Windows Vista, and also Windows XP, but if you are a Mac owner Kodak does not currently provide an application to stream photos from your Mac to the frame. However you can get around this by using an UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) Mac apps such as Twonkyvision MediaServe, which the frame will be compatible with.

The frame display is wide screen, with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (same as EX-811) and 128MB of internal memory. Unlike other frames the EX-1011 does not have an automatic re-sizing process to reduce file sizes before transferring photos to the frame. This means that images shot at high-resolution use up at lot of internal memory, reducing the amount of files you can store at one time. To prevent this you can re-size photos on your PC before transferring, or reset the resolution display on your camera.

The EX-1011 has slots for most Memory card types, as well as USB connectivity, which will boost the frames storage capacity. You can also play back MPEG 4 video files and MP3 audio files, and the frame will support video output from most still camera and camera phone formats. The sound quality is only average, but the picture quality is very good, with sharp and bright images, and accurate colours.

The frame itself isn’t exactly stylish, just a simple black interchangeable outer frame with glossy black inner frame, but it has the benefit of being practical and easy to use. There are some additional outer frames designs available from around $20, but the selection is very limited. You can mount the frame on the wall using the integrated slots for display or set it up on a small tripod, but remember you need to keep the frame plugged in as it does not run on batteries.

Ultimately though the main attraction of the EX-1011 is the easy to use wireless connectivity, which means you can access the online Kodak Easyshare Gallery from any Internet connection. The Gallery allows you to create your own albums and slide shows, and share these with friends and family who also own a Kodak Wi-Fi enabled frame. Although the sound quality is not great, the EX-1011 is simple to use, with bright, sharp image resolution and the larger 10-inch screen makes more of an impact for displaying photos and videos. Hope this review of Kodak Easyshare Ex1011 will help you in selecting the best. :)
